Does the cult of Horus prove that Christianity is false?
Some parallels between Horus and Jesus Christ:
1. Horus born of a virgin. <> Jesus born of a virgin.
2. The foster father of Horus was Seb or Seph. <> Jesus was fostered by Joseph.
3. Horus was of royal descent. <> Jesus was of royal descent.
4. Horus birth accompanied by three solar deities [star gazers] who followed by the morning star of Sirius bearing gifts. <> Jesus birth accompanied by three wise men [Zoroastrian star gazers] who followed by a star “in the east” bearing gifts.
5. The birth of Horus announced by angels. <> The birth of Jesus announced by angels.
6. Herut tried to murder the infant Horus. <> Herod slaughtered every first born in an attempt to kill Jesus the forthcoming messiah.
7. Horus is baptized at age 30 by Anup the Baptiser at a river. <> Jesus is baptized at age 30 by John the Baptist at a river.
8. Horus resists temptation by the evil Sut [Sut was to be the precursor for the Hebrew Satan] on a high mountain. <> Jesus resists temptation by Satan on a high mountain.
9. Horus had 12 followers. <> Jesus had 12 disciples.
10. Horus performed miracles like healing the sick and walking on water. <> Jesus performed miracles like healing the sick and walking on water.
11. Horus raised someone from the grave [his father Osiris] <> Jesus raised Lazarus [notice the name similarity] from the grave. Lazarus is short for Elasarus – the “us” on the end is romanized. Elasarus was derived from “El-Asar” which was the name given to Osiris.
12. Horus was buried and resurrected in the city of Anu. <> The place Bethany mentioned in John was a derivative of the words “Bet” and “Anu” which translates “the house of Anu”. The ‘y’ on the end of bethany is interchangeable with the letter ‘u’.
13. Horus was killed by crucifixtion. <> Jesus was crucified.
14. Horus was accompanied by two thieves at the crucifixtion. <> Jesus was crucified with two thieves.
15. Horus was buried in a tomb at Anu. <> Jesus was buried in a tomb located in Bethany [Bet-Anu].
16. Horus was resurrected after 3 days. <> Jesus was “said” to resurrected after over a period of three days.
17. The resurrection of Horus was announced by three women. <> The resurrection of Jesus was announced by three women.
18. Horus was given the titel KRST which means “anointed one” <> Jesus was given the title Christ [Christos] meaning “anointed one”

19. Horus was considered the Good Shepherd amongst other names identified as a falcon to watch over shepherds, flocks and other grazing cattle. <> Jesus was called the Good Shepherd amongst other names the same for Horus.
20. Horus is associated with fish and is linked with the star sign Pisces. <> Jesus is also associated with fish [and fishermen] and has Pisces as his star sign.

Now keep in mind I’m not saying you’re wrong here; I’m just saying that this doesn’t prove anything.
But, just because a Horus mystery religion predates the birth and ministry of Jesus (or if you will, the beginnings of the first-century Christian religion) doesn’t prove that Christians appropriated Horus-worship.
If Christianity is true, then Christ was God (or at least with God) from the beginning (John chapter 1). That means that Christ as a divine being actually predated his physical birth and his life as a human.
Thus it is still possible that ancient prophets had all of this revealed to them (Abraham, Enoch, Jacob, whomever)- just because this knowledge didn;t make it into the Bible doesn;t mean it wasn;t there. The Bible itself mentions all kinds of lost books, and there’s no reason within the Bible to imagine that the Bible is the exclusive totality of God’s revelations to man.
So if Noah, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob knew about Jesus (at least in some form or another as the prophesied Messiah who was to come) before he came, how hard is it to imagine that they imparted this knowledge to others and that knowledge became debased and corrputed over the centuries.
If Christianity is true, then there’s no reason why Horus worshippers weren’t actually the ones “stealing” religious beliefs and mythological elements that had been revealed by prophecy.
but when were the first writings of noah ever mentioned on paper? im not talking about what the book of genesis says. i mean what evidence is there in writing that has been dated prior to the earliest writings of Horus?
keep in mind that the story of Horus comes from Hieroglyphics that were dated prior to 3000 B.C.
I am not religious nor am I closed minded. I am asking because I have been searching for writings that came before Horus and I cannot nor can anyone I have asked can produce any. All they produce are writings that came after the earliest writings of Horus or other Gods that are similar, that mention noah and abraham were around before but never anything in writing before 3000 bc
I hope i made that clear. i know i repeated myself but wanted to clarify thoroughly.
I agree with Kullervo. It is my belief that Jesus was known and talked about long before he was actually born. The story of Abraham being commanded to sacrifice Isaac seems to make this clear. God was going to sacrifice His son, and wanted Abraham to understand what that would feel like. In the end God didn’t make Abraham go through with it, but this was a type of things to come. I think the entire law of sacrifice in the Old Testiment was a shadow and type of the Christ.
There’s more, of course, and it has filled novels. It all depends on if you want to believe because of logic and history or belief and faith. Faith tells me anything the Egyptians had was either a result of Hebrew influence or the general knowledge of the future coming of Christ. The Book of Mormon takes this tact in a very clear fashion and the Old Testiment seems to as well. The New Testiment lets us know as well, as mentioned in the previous post, that Jesus was from the beginning the Christ.
I subscribe to the notion that everyone held the same, if not very similar beliefs that were eventually altered as people spread out. So, the Egyptians knew Christ, they just didn’t realize they did.
wonderfull… it dont prove anything because those things are not for prove
jesus himself learned with ancient egipt masters… and yes… its the ancient cult of hotus, osiris and isis that lives in the jesus story… but… a very bad version of the gloryous
but when you have a church that isnt a church… what can we expect??
wonderfull ideas here… nice to see ppl that can see..
nice dreams for all the others

Old Testiment scriptures (that were originally written in Hebrew) attest to ONLY ONE TRUE GOD – “and no other before ME” (Read the book of Isaiah for example). While New Testiment scriptures – were at one point in time – interpreted into the Greek language (by a society long steeped in pagan religious practices).
Coupled with the fact that – the word ‘christ’ itself was taken from its (original root) Greek translation -’kristos.’ And the word -’kristos’- was a term applied to the names of (many) pagan deities all throughout history. The word ‘kristos’ written in English as – christ – actually existed long before the birth of Jesus.
So – you just have to wonder now don’t you?
I mean – why would Jesus hold a title associated to a variety of false gods?
By the way – I meant to add that you brought up some very valid points of interest.

Hey!
I’ve read all over the net about these “facts” about Horus’ life, though unfortunately I haven’t yet seen any evidence for the claims of these.
Maybe you have! Please e-mail me where I could find the objective facts describing the life of Horus.
Cause as a skeptic I wouldn’t want to lengthen lies.
Nice blog by the way!
Hey! I too have not found any site describing the life of Horus, nothing describing anything that i can compare to anything.
So far, the best I’ve found that seems legitimate is by Acharya S (D.M. Murdock) called truthbeknown.com
Quote: “Old Testiment scriptures (that were originally written in Hebrew) attest to ONLY ONE TRUE GOD – “and no other before ME” (Read the book of Isaiah for example).”
This is true ^ , however, we also see “God” refered to as muliple persons throughout the old testament such as “we” and “us”.
Quote: “While New Testiment scriptures – were at one point in time – interpreted into the Greek language (by a society long steeped in pagan religious practices).”
This is not really true… The New Testament was written, not interpreted, by Christians who HAPPENED to be Greeks.
Also, the fact that the Greek word Kristos has been applied to many Pagan dieties throughout history has no relevance to anything…. “Christ” was an annointed one, if that’s what he is, then that name is appropriate. Even the Bible says that there would be and will be many that call themselves by that title.
Personally, I find it even more interesting that we all know who to think of (really) when someone says the word “Christ”…… kinda shows who that title really stuck too didn’t it?
Can you provide bibliographical referense for your claims? Some of them are quite new to me. I am terribly fascinated by ‘ancient religion’, Horus specifically, and I find your website intriguing.
Thank you.
Do you have any evidence that the legend of Horus was created before Christianity and is not just a modern day myth meant to disprove it? I have read through this site and found no past references only been told to believe on blind faith that the myth of Horus existed before that of Jesus Christ.
Yet you believe on blind faith what is written in the Bible? Hmm… Oh well. If you’d like some real facts on the matter… try talking to someone who has a degree in history, ancient history, etc. Like myself. The ancient “religion” associated with Horus dates to long before the birth of Christianity. As I’m just happening upon this blog… I have no direct references available for you, but I’m sure if you look they won’t be hard to find (although I doubt that you’ll look, simply because the truth does hurt sometimes).
Horus is not a modern day myth. Egyptian mythology has been around longer than Christianity, at least any evidence that we have found shows it been around longer. We have as much proof of Horus as we do of Jesus. If you are asking if I have tablets in my book shelf? the answer is NO, I do not. However Egyptian mythology is as widely accepted as having existed as the bible, it’s just Christianity became widely accepted and had to be translated and mass produced for the masses that have accepted Christianity at true. One could argue that Christianity is older than Egyptian mythology, but nothing has been found to believe otherwise, so if you want actual proof then Horus came before Jesus, if you wish faith and that one day evidence will be found, then maybe one day it will. Here is a movie of 3 conspiracies, one involves the bible lie. http://zeitgeistmovie.com …..If you wish to watch it enjoy, but like everything don’t take it as gospel, it’s always best to research for yourself. also it will take about 10 minutes into the show before they start saying anything worthwhile, so be patient.
Zeitgeist dropped like a brick.
In conclusion: Evidence of details for Horus is created between 1960 and 1990 AD.
I would like to point out that I am not for or against the Bible. However I consider myself more scientific and the bible seems illogical to me. I will probably need proof to ever fully accept the bible.
And excuse my errors of grammar, I noticed them after I hit submit.
From my research on the subject this is what I found from the original list given:
“1. Horus born of a virgin. Jesus born of a virgin.”
-Not true. It was a miraculous birth but not nessecarily a virgin birth. Isis was impregnated by Osiris even though his penis was still missing after Seb killed him and scattered his remains…. hmmm sounds NOTHING like Jesus lol
2. The foster father of Horus was Seb or Seph. Jesus was fostered by Joseph.
-This is misleading. In all of the stories PREDATING Jesus, Seb was Horus’ Uncle but since he murdered His father he was Horus’ arch-nemesis. It was up to Horus to avenge his father… in no version ANYWHERE was Seb his “foster father”. Also Joseph was a mortal man while Seb was the god of the under world…
3. Horus was of royal descent. Jesus was of royal descent.
Jesus mortal descendant was of the bloodline of David- Horus had no mortal bloodline, technically, as he was never mortal- although all pharoahs traditionally saw themselves as horus incarnate. This is not really similar to Jesus.
4. Horus birth accompanied by three solar deities [star gazers] who followed by the morning star of Sirius bearing gifts. Jesus birth accompanied by three wise men [Zoroastrian star gazers] who followed by a star “in the east” bearing gifts.
First off- at least get your biblical facts right. The Bible says nothing of the number of wisemen nor anything of any “Zoroastrian star gazers”. Second of all, Horus was never visited by any soloar deities NOR was his birth ever heralded by any stars.
5. The birth of Horus announced by angels. The birth of Jesus announced by angels.
No it wasn’t. Only Jesus’ was and even then it was only to a few select people (Mary, Joseph, and the Shepherds)
6. Herut tried to murder the infant Horus. Herod slaughtered every first born in an attempt to kill Jesus the forthcoming messiah.
There was no Herut- it was his Evil Uncle Seb who wanted Him dead lest he avenge his father, Osiris.
7. Horus is baptized at age 30 by Anup the Baptiser at a river. Jesus is baptized at age 30 by John the Baptist at a river.
There never was any Anup the Baptiser nor was Horus ever baptised… this one was COMPLETELY fabricated
8. Horus resists temptation by the evil Sut [Sut was to be the precursor for the Hebrew Satan] on a high mountain. Jesus resists temptation by Satan on a high mountain.
Horus was never tempted by any Sut. And Sut was just another name for Seb in another version in the story. DUDE there is ALWAYS an evil guy or a nemisis or something along those lines. Seb is no more Satan than Lex Luthor is…
9. Horus had 12 followers. Jesus had 12 disciples.
10. Horus performed miracles like healing the sick and walking on water. Jesus performed miracles like healing the sick and walking on water.
11. Horus raised someone from the grave [his father Osiris] Jesus raised Lazarus [notice the name similarity] from the grave. Lazarus is short for Elasarus – the “us” on the end is romanized. Elasarus was derived from “El-Asar” which was the name given to Osiris.
12. Horus was buried and resurrected in the city of Anu. The place Bethany mentioned in John was a derivative of the words “Bet” and “Anu” which translates “the house of Anu”. The ‘y’ on the end of bethany is interchangeable with the letter ‘u’.
13. Horus was killed by crucifixtion. Jesus was crucified.
14. Horus was accompanied by two thieves at the crucifixtion. Jesus was crucified with two thieves.
15. Horus was buried in a tomb at Anu. Jesus was buried in a tomb located in Bethany [Bet-Anu].
16. Horus was resurrected after 3 days. Jesus was “said” to resurrected after over a period of three days.
17. The resurrection of Horus was announced by three women. The resurrection of Jesus was announced by three women.
18. Horus was given the titel KRST which means “anointed one” Jesus was given the title Christ [Christos] meaning “anointed one”
19. Horus was considered the Good Shepherd amongst other names identified as a falcon to watch over shepherds, flocks and other grazing cattle. Jesus was called the Good Shepherd amongst other names the same for Horus.
20. Horus is associated with fish and is linked with the star sign Pisces. Jesus is also associated with fish [and fishermen] and has Pisces as his star sign.
Oops I accidentally clicked on submit…. anyway moving on:
9. Horus had 12 followers. Jesus had 12 disciples.
-Horus had followers but in the stories it either says 10 or many. Never 12.
10. Horus performed miracles like healing the sick and walking on water. Jesus performed miracles like healing the sick and walking on water.
-Horus did no such thing, although even if he did- this would be assumed from a deity would it not? Deities must have SOME universal qualities.
11. Horus raised someone from the grave [his father Osiris] Jesus raised Lazarus [notice the name similarity] from the grave. Lazarus is short for Elasarus – the “us” on the end is romanized. Elasarus was derived from “El-Asar” which was the name given to Osiris.
There are no stories where Horus raises ANYONE from the dead. Osiris was pieced back together by Isis (Horus’ Mommy). However, in versions that post-date Christianity, the story of Horus sort of “evolves” him into his fathers place. He becomes the Sun god rather than the god of the sky like in the versions that predate Christianity, but this is worthless information to this cause…
12. Horus was buried and resurrected in the city of Anu. The place Bethany mentioned in John was a derivative of the words “Bet” and “Anu” which translates “the house of Anu”. The ‘y’ on the end of bethany is interchangeable with the letter ‘u’.
Horus never died let alone resurrected- only His father Osiris died. In one story that comes after Christianity, however, Seb wins the battle over Horus, but the Gods let him live.
13. Horus was killed by crucifixtion. Jesus was crucified.
Horus was never crucified in ANY version of the story. Romans invented crucifiction…
14. Horus was accompanied by two thieves at the crucifixtion. Jesus was crucified with two thieves.
Horus was never crucified…
15. Horus was buried in a tomb at Anu. Jesus was buried in a tomb located in Bethany [Bet-Anu].
Horus never died….
16. Horus was resurrected after 3 days. Jesus was “said” to resurrected after over a period of three days.
Horus never died…..
17. The resurrection of Horus was announced by three women. The resurrection of Jesus was announced by three women.
Horus never died….
18. Horus was given the titel KRST which means “anointed one” Jesus was given the title Christ [Christos] meaning “anointed one”
No such title was given to Horus. Horus was the God of the Sky anad later (after Christ) was given the title God of the Sun
19. Horus was considered the Good Shepherd amongst other names identified as a falcon to watch over shepherds, flocks and other grazing cattle. Jesus was called the Good Shepherd amongst other names the same for Horus.
Nope Horus was never given that title- he was identified as a falcon but because he was the God of the Sky
20. Horus is associated with fish and is linked with the star sign Pisces. Jesus is also associated with fish [and fishermen] and has Pisces as his star sign.
Horus was never associated with a fish… only a hawk and the sun (after Christ)
If you’ve seen versions of these stories that i haven’t read, please let me know where to find them. I’ve read every story I could find in the library and I’ve read all stories from as many combinations of everything that has to do with Horus on the internet as I could find. The funny thing is that the only real parallels that I’ve seen are between the people who believe this crap. NONE OF THEM HAVE EVER READ A STORY WITH A GOOD PARALLEL IN IT. I have done research on other claims too- they are just as empty as Horus! Please….
You really should do your research on this before making bogus claims. http://www.tektonics.org/copycat/osy.html
I’m assuming that you aren’t talking to me- considering that you just gave me the same website as the one I gave in one of my previous posts…
Are there any original citations from Egyptian records pre-dating the New Testament to support these ideas?
holy crap..I searched almost every wikipedia pages in languages I understand and found nothing that is claimed here..it is amazing how truth can be rubbished..I have many atheist friends, but they would never accept these lies..it’s against their honor..and I thought atheist prefers only real facts..this stinks
so in fact is christian a copy of Horus’s cult?the idea that results from those comparation…or the Horus’s cult just copyed the Christian’s dates to make people believe that jesus is a copy of horus…i saw Zeitgeist a movie that explains that not only horus has the same dates like jesus but more other god’z like budha and more others
Ok. Someone needs to school everyone in Egyptology. Go, all of you… to a Borders or Books-a-Million or whatever mainstream bookstore you can. Pick up a copy of the book of the dead, and LEARN. The image of Ra, Re,Ra-Amun, Horus, and Heru-ur as well as several other “names” were all derivatives of the same “god-king” ie. Solar Deity. Pharaohs in the First and Second Dynasty “mixed” cult lore with their own lineage to impose themselves as Gods (and the practice continued). This causes confusion because each dynasty changes details in the history of the cult. Egyptologists are as confused as you all are, and they have degrees in studying this era of history. Most scholars acknowledge one fact: THE BOOK OF THE DEAD didn’t change much. The best translation is the “Faulkner” translation, it is hieroglyph to English direct translation and makes this hogwash (Egyptian cult lineage) a lot easier to understand.
There are 42(~) Deities in these ancient Egyptian cults that worshiped the multifaceted “Sun God”, Horus, Ra, Re, Heru-ur. He IS depicted as the “elder” as a falcon, but as HORUS himself, he is a falcon, with a head of the sun (not just his eye). This is symbolic of one of the most ancient symbols in history, the caduceus… A falcon (or bird) with outstretched wings, whose body is a Ball of light (or just a golden ball) that has a snake crawling (Seth, Seb, Se’Teth, Se’Tech) up and around him.
Look in the book of the dead, you will see it. Spell 125, read the whole damn thing. Not only does it clearly explain a pre-dated “final judgment” concept, it also explains the means by which most other Mesopotamian religions created their moral codes.
Remember people, Moses ~2150 BC, Abraham came 250 years before him. Egyptian Cults… came 500 years before Abraham. Even in the bible (OT) its clear that Egyptian culture (note this word) was already well developed. Look at the story of Joseph, Son of Jacob. He served the KING of Egypt, therefore a monarchy and a culture that supported that civilizational construct (which would, as far as EVERY OTHER CIVILIZATION IN HISTORY HAS PROVEN would necessitate a formal religion of some kind).
All in all, Mesopotamian solar deities were quite common, and rightly so. There isn’t much else but dirt and sunlight in the desert. This is a list of Solar Deities:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Solar_gods
They ALL have similarities with Jesus, and as they should… most of them predate Christianity by hundreds (or in the case of the Egyptian occult, 2600+ years).
BTW, its completely asinine to suggest that Christianity didn’t have direct influences from other religions (it DID… Judaism, or worship of Elohim, aka Yahweh, the desert war-god of the sun). We atheists are just making that next step… and closing the loop of suggestion.
A list of “Transference” characteristics from one person to another IS evident within the Bible too.
Joseph (OT) had a miracle birth, Jesus did too.
Jesus begins his ministry at 30, Joseph begins his ministry at 30.
Joseph had 12 brothers, Jesus had 12 disciples.
Brother Juda(h) sells Joseph for 20 pieces of silver…
Disciple Juda(s) sells Jesus for 30 pieces of silver…
WHEN WILL YOU PEOPLE UNDERSTAND?? This happens in religions, if anything Christianity is the MOST multicultural religion to date. It took elements from MANY places. Which I am sure someone will put them together someday and publish a book, clearly outlining the truth of it.
My mistake… the dates are roughly off…
Abraham, is currently thought to have lived closer to 2100 BC, and Moses some 450-500 years after that. Which, ironically puts Moses in the 19th Dynasty of Egypt!! and that puts Abraham in the “First Intermediate Period”, almost seven dynasties AFTER the foundation of Egyptian occult.
Hello, the parallels between Horus and Jesus Christ have been confermed by many people.
this is the first thing i clicked on tonight out of boredom. i just wanted to bring up one little thing, every 2000 years or so there seems to be another major religion. who is to say wich is right and wrong? at one time horus or ra or whatever you wanna call him WAS jesus. not to mention almost every religion that predates judeo-christian ideas. people say that it is stupid to say that we are just here on a ball in a big open space. and i say mabey it is the most obvious answer. but what do i know? i can barely keep my eyes open.
All pagan solar dieties have shared charactaristica with eachother, simply because, being SOLAR gods, they share a host of fundamental charactaristica.
Horus and Jesus are just two of them. besides, every 2100 years or so, a new one will emerge from the same pool of charataristica, as we enter a new astrological era. currently, we are in the era of Pisces. This ends in about 150 years, if I recall even somewhat correctly.
Besides, the Romans did NOT invent the cross, or the crucifiction. Its an old. . nay, Ancient, pagan symbol, representing the zodiac. If you doubt me, and I hope you do, gogo check for yourself. But not on the internet, please. its so full of. . rubbish.
Oh, dammit. Too tired. Forgot to say that the reason I categorize Jesus with all the other pagan sungods is that that is basically what the personificational myth of jesus is. The cross on which “Jesus” was “killed” is the constellation “the cross”. Im not guessing here, Im playing the odds. Learn Historical method, and math. Will make it easier for you to seperate the propaganda from the shreds of “truth” or whatever thats out there ;D
Hahahahaha. I just realized the only counters there are to any of the claims on this site are made by christians.
Im sorry, but I cannot take the word of people who choose to believe at the expense of knowledge seriously.
Think about it. There has never, ever, in the history of . . well. . in history, been produced any evidence whatsoever for claims of the existence of anything even remotely divine.
Adding to that, more that just a handful of rather convincing professionals has more than once more or less substansiated their theories of religion being a manmade cognitive parasite.
Im tired, and I babble and digress. Nevertheless, I would really like even just a shred of actual evidence – be that intellectual, in the form of logical, coherent, rational argumentation or physical, be that whatever it takes – for the existence of something, an entity or whatnot, that is resembling, even remotely, that which is labeled “the Divine” by worshippers.
Well, as has been mentioned above at some point, the simplest and most obvious answer can normally serve as the most accurate. Not only can I not find any information to support Christianity or Jesus, either factual or rational, I cannot comprehend the need to believe in such a thing or, for that matter, any other religion. We have, as is mentioned in Zeitgeist, sadly drawn a huge distinction between humans and the ‘natural’ world which I comprehend equally badly. Logic requires that we understand ourselves to be animals, which we are, with only superficial differences from other animals. There is no rhyme or reason to suppose the existence of things ‘divine’. Religions were, on the whole, in my opinion, a way by which ancients–who had a very different understanding of the physical sciences–could come to an intellectual solution for the otherwise hard to explain physical and natural environment in which they lived and to which they were subjected.
Books, such as the Bible, clearly then must be an attempt to rationalise what was not fully understood, coupled with an intended moral code. As we have seen in the Epic of Gilgamesh (strangely not mentioned above by name), a large body of ideologies are brought to play. These conceptual precepts are then, quite clearly, employed in other works, such as the Old Testament. It may well be that the later works are cribbed directly or indirectly from such earlier writings; that such previous and ancient mythology was inherited from the earlier texts directly or by tradition. Alternately, and the only other solution in my mind, it is possible that the human imagination has a universality to it and that, therefore, remarkably similar mythologies have been founded completely independently of each other. The last suggestion seems to be the very most unlikely.
In conclusion, my thoughts are that a great deal of ancient mythological literature was produced and this literature can be studied to better understand the minds of the ancients and ourselves although none of it can logically be employed to explain the natural environment or be treated seriously as evidence of anything divine. It is not important, really, which came first, Horus or Christ, the chicken or the egg. It is equally unimportant whether or not one be a copy or off-shoot of the other. Far more important is the fact that they are all myths and ought to be understood to be such; most such myths being employed more for the political (and sometimes financial) gains of their proliferators. The falling of the colonial Roman Empire is a very good case in point, in that it must have been obvious to Constantine, for example, that capitalisation, rather than colonisation, was to be the only saving ‘grace’ of his kingdom. What better, than, but to sell Eternal Salvation? It certainly seem to have kept the Vatican fluid.
hey
its very point of view.
Nice post.
realy good post
thx
I would like to impart a few words of advice to everyone. If your posts are filled with grammar mistakes and misspellings, someone like myself will totally dismiss them. Also, with no sources or references, your points have no validity to an intellectual who understands that anyone with a 3rd grade education can randomly invent facts and comparisons in attempt to prove their point of view. I’m not siding with anyone here. I’m simply trying to suggest that it’s fairly ignorant to assume that any scholar will blindly accept babble from random strangers on the internet.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dionysus
That link will adhere to his unmistakable likeness to Jesus Christ. I also agree with the previous post claiming that Jesus was a mix of a few other gods, I’m sure the person that created this myth had the luxury of choosing the characteristics of his god this being one of them.
Isn’t it possible that an actual person, more likely named Joshua ben Joseph (or whatever the name) walked the walk and talked the talk of the ultimate Love of God (or whatever you want to call It) and how that Love is our ultimate salvation. I don’t go for the theist version of God or “Jesus” but it’s not far-fetched to think that after such a fully human person (as John Shelby Spong calls him (which is rare)) dies that legend begins to be applied and the Egyptian version fit the bill nicely for institutionalization/control reasons, make people think they are dependent on the authorities for access, in direct contradiction to what “Jesus” taught. It’s ashamed because the baby (the message of true Love) has too often been thrown out with the bath water (the mythology). Buddha had similar myths (walking on water, ascension, etc) applied but he still existed and his words still ring true. Instead of killing or worshipping the messenger we need to heed the message that has always existed, infinitely longer than 13.7 billion years ago.
To Anonymous, and your September 11 comment at 17:51.
While it is true that it is “ignorant to assume that any scholar will blindly accept babble”, especially “from random strangers on the internet”, it is also incredibly ignorant to assume that all of those listening to the, aforementioned, strangers on the internet babble, are scholars.
Just because the grammar isn’t correct, or the opinion unquoted, doesn’t mean that the comment itself isn’t valid.
You, Anonymous, are a jackass.
Yours sincerely,

“Just because the grammar isn’t correct, or the opinion unquoted, doesn’t mean that the comment itself isn’t valid.”
Yeah, it pretty much does. Every discussion on any religious beliefs just turns into a huge rant with no references to back anything up. In a discussion like this, about a specific link between Horus and Jesus, any argument that the link does or doesn’t exist needs some kind of reference to back it up. Otherwise, what is the point?
One of the tools of Satan is deception a distorter of truth. Keep in mind the OT for told many of the details of the coming of the Messiah.
Yes, some details of the signs are given to all to see.
The copycat deception has been around from the beginning and it is still going on today.
Christ said: Who to you say I am ? (Matthew 16:15)
This is a question every person has to work out on his
own. The decision for this is not easy, but you have to
take the time and do your own research.
Reposting other peoples unsubstantiated claims will
get you nowhere, this is about the essence of existence.
“One of the tools of Satan is deception a distorter of truth.”
With that thought, Jesus himself may be Satan deceiving you. Neither Jews nor Muslims believe Jesus to be any mesiah… maybe you have already bought into Satan’s deception.
What a great desception that would be, eh?
You can tell the tree by it’s fruit.
If the fruit is good, who would you blame ?
If the fruit is bad, who would you blame ?
So, the tree identifies it self during the harvest.
About the Jew and Muslims, neither did they
believe in the prophets or the one who send them.
They killed the prophets, because they did not
want to hear the word.
Do you want to hear the word ?
Well, let’s just stick to the facts: besides the bible, a book that propagates (!) Christianity, there is no physical evidence that Jesus ever existed. Ones religion only depends upon the place of your birth. If you were born in Japan or India (for example), you most likely would not believe in Jesus, period.
Furthermore, as far as I’m aware, Isis was NOT a virgin and Horus was NOT cricified.
In other words, both the story of Horus and the story of Jesus are most likely myths.
And don’t tell me that there isn’t anyone who has a benefit in people believing these myths. History is full of examples.
By the way, one thing that is certain: the new testament is not ONE book, it’s made up of many, many other writings. The church took out the parts they found most usefull and created the new testament, DO YOUR HOMEWORK!
So wath a big part of this earth’s population unconditionally take as THE TRUTH, is actually a bundle of stories put together by MAN!
This specific topic has interested me. A friend of mine mentioned it and so I’ve been researching this off and on for a few months. First I will admit that I haven’t spent a lot of time (a few hours here or there) and I’m no expert. I don’t have all the answers, nor will I ever.
With that said I do have a few things to say to people researching this just like me and to those lazy bastards that seem to have all the answers. Face it; you will never have all the answers!!! Anyways, I keep hoping that someone from either side of the argument would list some books or other research material that is really good! But I always see the same thing on the internet. It frustrates the hell out of me when people use Wikipedia to give relevance to their research claims. It doesn’t matter what side you argue, stop using Wikipedia for answers. Wikipedia is open for anyone to make changes to the information. Colleges, Universities, Seminaries, etc. will not recognize sources from Wikipedia as a legitimate source of information. Why then should we? This makes your research look lazy and sloppy. I don’t want to waste my time listening or reading someone’s side if they use Wikipedia. I automatically see you as someone who is lazy and won’t put the time in to actually study. I don’t care what side you argue, or what you are arguing. How about looking at actual history books, maybe even some Greek to English, hieroglyph to English translations, or some other source that is reputable. This is the only way to actually get proper translations, history, and some of the answers. As for me I will never know all the answers, but I will always be “still searching, still desperate for answers.”
Here here..Wikipedia is not a reliable source of information…in fact think of the word soure, and resource…GO TO THE SOURCE..Learn cuniform, aramaic, Hebrew,Egyptian,Greek and Latin.read the original texts in the original language…erm..how do we check we have the correct meanings of these languages when all we have is the rosetta stone? There wasnt any cuniform on it was there…..
oops the quote is “still searching, so desperate for answers” its from a song called “understand” by: Betrayed

Was Horus Crucified?
http://stellarhousepublishing.com/washoruscrucified.html
And Horus’ mother WAS a virgin.
The rest of that stuff is answered by the same book in the link above.
You should all take a moment and view Bill Maher’s ‘documentary’ – “Religulous”…
I laughed my f-ing ass off. Especially when he made references to the very subject debated here.
Seems to me that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are all quite the vlagrant plagerists…
Taking care I would mention that in the Biblical ‘history’ of Judaism the descendants of Abraham lay claim to have descended from slavery out of Egypt…
This just might explain why the jewish Man-God Jesus is so inherantly Horus-like.
Perhaps a handful of some Jews got sick of shredding their cocks in a barbaric ritual and decided to resurrect the old stories of Horus in an effort to erradicate any future need for sacrifice… or maybe they did it so they could start working on Sundays w/o fear of capital punishment… that would give them greater opportunity for profit…
Irregardless, it IS a recycled story… and the Jews DO have direct ties to it’s origins.
To suggest otherwise only shows ones’ blind ignorance… aka ‘blind faith’
lol
(Christians are so goddamned gullible)
Interesting debate. A lot of you argue that there is no evidence of Horus being born of a virgin. Maybe so but, do you have any proof of Jesus being born of a virgin? Of course not. We will never have proof either way. However, the facts that we do have speak for itself. Horus was/is a God born from two Gods Osiris and Isis. What proof is there of Jesus being the son of a God? None. Mary, mother of Jesus, was a clever woman, very clever indeed……
Think about my last statement. Will be interesting to gt your feedback…
Why has a such a strong stance been taken for those with disbelief in th bible are the ones who bare the burden of proof! Hey jesus freaks give me a link, siting, archeological find or SOMETHING!
Hey jesus freaks give me a link, siting, archeological find or SOMETHING!

Hey AntiJesus freak, give me a link, siting, archeological find or SOMETHING!
Please do not cite any further “The Da Vinchi Code” – it is a mystery fiction novel, guys, it is NOT TRUE!!!
You guys all point to several books or quotations of different people. Think about it!! Anyone can write a book saying his theory on the matter. None of those references are acceptable!!!!! The bible? You can say has been written by men too! But in order to prove the accuracy and the trustfulness of it, you have to prove some sort of divine power behind it. If you can prove that, and it proved to be accurate in everything it says, than I can trust it. So than, why don’t you all study the prophesies of the Bible? (By the way, a real prophesy it’s different from simple prediction!!! A prophesy states dates, names, exact locations and so on. It accurate in every little details). History, objects, names, locations, dates etc… have showned that what the bible stated (sometimes over 200 years before) really happend. Look up for example the fall of Babilon (Sorry! I don’t know the english spelling) or many others. Remember too that archeologists more and more often refer to the bible for locations of ancient cities or buildings and … everything it’s there in the very spot where the bible said!! That’s how I came to belive that the bible it’s trustworthy. And as you keep finding you start to accept everything it says. As my last comment, the bible itself talks of faith in the letter to the hebrews 11:1 as somthing that requires proofs, an “evident demostration of realities”. So keep looking for those proofs!! ANY other book doesn’t have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and than, if the bible proves true, so it will be for it’s account about Jesus. Thank you
Well, said lollo,
If you want to see this concept of prophecy in action,
read all the things which are occurring just in the last few
years in the land of Israel.
All these evens are foretold in the old and new testament.
Watching TV now days is like the play by play of the
prophesies.
God is God and his agenda never changed, don’t be
confused by what you see he told the believers what
will accrue. Be of good spirit, your redemption draws near.
All these things have to come to past and then comes the end.
You are simply nuts…
I am Egyptian and there are somethings i would like to tell you about this myth. first the myth of Isis and Osiris and their son is huge and has many versions and cant be said in these few points. You must also know that this myth was taken by the Romans when they were in Egypt (they were affected so much by the new religion (Christianity) when it started spreading in Egypt) and they retold it in their own way. I don’t care what the writer of the book you read said, but Horus was not crucified according to the ancient Egyptian myth (crucifixion is a Roman invention for torturing people) there are a lot of details that exist in this myth and doesn’t mach the story of Jesus, and that maybe the writer did not mention because it would put his whole argument into question. I think i should say that : Isis, Osiris, neftis and, set,are four different gods and goddesses. the four of them are brothers and sisters. in a vision of the story Horus married his mother in similarity to the famous Greek tragedies. as you said Horus is a myth but Jesus is a real person that lived on earth, and his story has real solid evidences that you can see with your own eyes.
most of these are demonstrably false by anyone with a brain
crucifixion was not even invented until long after the egyptian myths were created
horus’ father was osiris
his mother was isis, and there is no reference to any variation of the name “mary” in egyptian myth
most of the facts about horus are not found in ANY reputable versions of egyptian myth, including the crucifixion, the three kings at horus’ birth, the virgin birth, horus having 12 followers, being a teacher at twelve, being baptized at thirty (or at all), or pretty much any other point
(by the way, am i the only one who finds it funny that number 16 shows skepticism that Jesus was resurrected, but not Horus, as if the author believes the egyptian myths? obvious evidence that most atheists are really just anti-christian as opposed to anti-religion)
all of these “facts” are simply transparent attempts at defrauding christianity
is it really plausible that people would have not pointed these out before? this would have been huge news whenever it came out if it had any validity. and before anyone goes on a rant about how the church must have suppressed the knowledge: information this big would have been too big to suppress, and even people at the beginning of the church would have pointed it out.
if atheists REALLY seeked truth, they would do some research to see how false these claims are instead of just reading a blog online and immediately believing it
i was listening until you revealed your christian early life indoctrination there, too bad because you almost had a point…almost
This reminds me of the early christian theologians debating how many angels can fit on the head of a pin..
Surely we are either talking history or faith or Myth..In my lowly opinion as an inhabitant of spaceship eather for 52 years I have tried to indulge many kinds of belief systems in my feeble attempts to discover the truth..Here is my simple conclusion: faith: beleive either what you are told to beleive in by your parents or your culture, or dont. History: all history is jaded somewhat by whoever one the wars or had the power in their hands, more or less so…AS THERE IS NO RADIO CARBON DATING OF MYTH OR BELIEF..this discussion will go on endlessly with no firm conclusions ..so i agree with no one here whatsoever..make u p your own mind but yes..if it burns with a passion then read read read but more importantly THINK AND BE HUMAN…PUT YOURSELF INTO THE MIND OF AN EARLY HUMAN AND TRY TO IMAGINE WHAT YOU MIGHT BELEIVE GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF YOUR BIRTH…
and i DO appologise for my poor spelling and CAPS LOCK..its 3 am im interested but tired out..old guy eh…
Im off to my cave now to watch the fire slowly dim while i huddle up next to my warm mate…
I was born of a virgin at least my mum swears she was a virgin…does that make me a god?
Religion only divides people. There are so many more important values in modern civilization that those implied in ancient mythologies. Be free, let your mind be free, free your true feelings and be smart. The only God we should care of is called human kind and Earth nature and we are destroying them, we are destroying each other just because a few, A FEW powerful men want so. Forgive ignorance, others, and your own. Be smart. Wake up!
Before I blurb, I must ask, did you really research Egyptian and Christian Mythology and put this together, or did you just go off an atheist website and copy these down?
1. In both myths, “Virgin” means “young Woman” not person who has not had sex. In Egyptian mythis, Osiris had a fake weiner, giving that more credibility.
2. Seb was the Earth God, not Seth, as that one guy said. I didn’t find a sorce saying he raised Horus
3. Horus was directally from Osiris, while Jesus was many generations after David
4. Jesus was accompanied by an unnamed number of wise men, but there were three gifts.
5. Thoth, not Angels, announced the birth.
6. Who is Herut?
7. Anubis doesn’t baptize, and IDK what he did with Horus. Also, Citation needed.
8. Set is Satan predescessor in that he was a follower of Ra/Yahweh, but was later demonized in texts. The real bad guy in Egyptian Mythology is Apep. Also, Horus didn’t “resist” he got into a brawl.
11. Horus wasn’t born until after Osiris died I think.
12. Citation Needed
13. Crucifixtion in Egypt was simply being tied to a tree. It doesn’t really matter, since Crucifixtion was the roman’s way of killing people. Also, Citation needed
16. They both were “said”. Also Citation needed
15. Citation needed
17. Citation Needed
18. Citation Needed
19 Sheep in Egyptian mythology are sheep. Sheep in Christian Mythology are Christians.
20. Okay.
Please respond, I am making a webcomic about the Egyptian Gods and want to get things right. I also heard that Jesus has more similarities with Hellenistic gods than Horus.
I think that the Book of Vivifying the Soul Forever or Book of the dead would work as sources. Also Tales of Ancient Egypt by Roger Lancelyn Green
I want to know where you got these facts from give me your reference….and just not just another site “claiming” the same thing. Show me a site that has readings or passages from some sort of book or glyphs that shows this. EVERY site iv read about horus shows that none of this is true. If you are to give facts you must back them up with references. THATS a fact.
Zeitgeist dropped like a brick.
In conclusion: Evidence of details for Horus is created between 1960 and 1990 AD.
Thank You
I realize the subject is Horus, But the plagiarism used by the Hebrews and early Church was not limited to Horus, which leaves good counterpoints for Christiandumb. They had a wealth of ancient myths in those early days to start their new religious B.S. and what they did afterwards, after using it,to hid their lying ass, was to burn all of it they could, for 300 years, at least, to make it their own. (Inter the “Dark Ages”). They didn’t get it all, but the bastards took a lot of knowledge from humanity in the process. Their Jesus is a nothing but a conglomeration of Horus,Zoroaster,Mithra,Buddha,Krishna,Melchizedek,Joshua,Joseph and other pagan myths
I am sorry are there actually people citing Wikipedia as their source? Allow me to go on record as saying all parties here are mis-lead and incorrect on many subjects. My name is Fadil Al Massari and I am what will be referred to in many academic circles as an Associate Professor of Egyptology in Alexandria University.
First allow me to say that all who question to whether a cult of Horus existed before Christianity the answer is most assuredly yes. Christianity is a very new religion barely two thousand years old. the Worship of Horus has been confirmed to have been worshiped as far back as five thousand years ago perhaps longer. There for Horus wins out in longevity thus far. Christianity , like Islam are both rooted in the Hebrew religion of Judaism. Evidence for the written word of Judaism goes back as far as three thousand five hundred years ago, again that shows us that the Egyptian worship of Horus and the others gods pre date the written Hebrew religion.
Now allow us please to make a few academic assumptions, that all religions are made up partially of truth, partially of lies, and a good deal of hope. All religions take from one another to further their own cause, Christianity is most keen on this, by use of some of their modern concepts. One issue I am taking here is with the supposed divinity of Jesus birth. There is no written record prior to the Council of Nicea stating that Jesus was Born of a Virgin, nor that God was his father. This is know for fact to have been brought in at a much later date because uneducated pagan masses had begun to associate Jesus with their own deities and it was decided to allow this practice to continue in order to help conversions. We know this for fact. it is not disputed. Just because your church does not subscribe to this does not make it any less factual. Secondly Many of you seem to assume that because you have read a story of Horus on the internet or in a book that you must know every story of Horus there is. This is simple arrogance and ignorance. Like many stories from Antiquity there are many interpretations and yes in one version Horus is born of a Virgin mother, in another he is killed and chopped to pieces only to be put back together in three days and revived. Do not though think that this means the story of Jesus must come from Horus.
This brings me to my next point, like any religion, there are arch types, universal story elements that allow us to feel a connection to the story and there for become attached to the story. We see the same thing around the world with mythological beasts. All over the world there are stories of Giants and Dragons. If we were to apply the same faith based logic as those who believe in any religion were to do then we would have to accept the fact that there are Dragons and Giants roaming the world or at least there were up until 100 years ago. yet we have never found any thing to support this what so ever. It is because these are universal ideas, we are after all human and the human mind while powerful is limited in its ability to create new ideas, we mainly just build upon older ideas.
In essence my point to all of this is, it does not matter if Jesus is real, imagined, an amalgamation of deities or a complete fabrication it is all about faith. No amount of arguing will change the faithful, faith for all of its lack of reason is the one thing that all humans refuse to let go of once it has become infused in their psyche. For me personally through my research i o believe the Hebrew religion was greatly influenced by the cultures it came into contact with , the Egyptian, Samaritan, Babylonian ( there is and has been evidence for going on 50 years that originally the Jewish people had a Male and Female goddess instead of just one God figure). And through their encounters with these people it lead to some of the greatest teachings in religion and philosophy the world has ever known. However it has also lead to some o the worlds greatest bigotry as well.
I thank you for allowing me the moment to share my thoughts on this subject. I feel it is extremely important for us to all share our ideas openly and with out bias, but at the same time we must be intelligent enough to listen to fact when it is presented and realize that we do not all have the answers and must learn from one another.
After studying a few of the blog posts on your web site, I truly enjoy your way of writing. I bookmarked it to my bookmark site list and will be checking back soon.
